Why There is Still Hope

Is there any way to find peace when your life is in total turmoil? No matter how serious your problem, or how upset you feel, there is hope for you. You can find peace and the strength to make it through this difficult situation!

It may be difficult to believe right now, but there is hope—for your life, hope for you in every way.

You may think God doesn’t want anything to do with you, or that you’ve made too many mistakes for him to love you, but God DOES love you, just the way you are.

This is usually hard for most people to believe—because we have all done things we are deeply ashamed of, and we can’t imagine God being able to love us in spite of everything. But when we look at what the Bible says about who God is and how he operates, we begin to understand how this is possible.

But now, LORD, what do I look for? My hope is in you. Psalm 39:7

God is the Perfect Parent

The Bible has a lot to say about the kind of relationship God wants to have with you. He made you as his child and loved you before you were even born. He will never stop loving you. Nothing you will ever do can make him turn away from you.

But if you come from a family where love is not given freely and unconditionally, this will be hard for you to understand or believe. Sadly, this is true for many people today. Perhaps you have never felt that your mom or dad loved you just the way you are.

The pain of feeling rejected and unloved by your own parent is deep and bitter and makes it really difficult to believe that there is a heavenly Father whose love will never falter. But God made it plain that his love goes far beyond what a human parent can offer:

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15

There is a story in the Bible about a father and a son that describes how God feels about us. The son had grown tired of living in his father’s home and decided to strike out on his own, demanding his inheritance in advance. After many months of foolish living, the son was soon broke. In his poverty, he began to think about what an incredibly bad choice he had made in leaving home. Believing his father would never forgive him for what he had done, he decided to ask if he could return and work as a servant in his father’s house. Then he would at least have decent food and a roof over his head. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and ran to him. His father threw his arms around him and joyfully received him back. All talk of being a servant was brushed away as the father threw a tremendous party to celebrate the restored relationship with his child. (Luke 15:11-32)

This story was given to explain the special relationship that God wants to have with you. He will never force you, but he will never stop hoping that you will want to know him. He loves you because he made you. There is nothing you can ever do to destroy his love, and there is nothing you can do to earn his love. This is what a perfect, loving parent is all about.

God Wants You to Have Hope

No matter what your situation is, you don’t have to face it alone. You don’t have to be overwhelmed with confusion or hopelessness. God is with you now, ready to give you the hope you need.

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18

Apart from God, hope is based on feelings and dreams for the future. When those dreams are shattered, hope is crushed. But if your hope is based on God himself, you will have a hope that problems cannot crush. A lot of people don’t know that hope is available through Jesus. God wants you to believe that your situation is not hopeless.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you. Ephesians 1:18

God holds out his promise of hope to all who believe in him. And this hope will give you the strength to face any difficulty.

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

When you have hope, you can have peace.
